It's hard to pick a favourite poem, some of us love mournful prose whilst others are happier reading comical rhymes. Some of us love to while away an afternoon composing our own verses, whilst some of us prefer to sit back with a cup of tea being serenaded with words of love and happiness.
Poetry club has gone from strength to strength, what started out as a couple of diehard poetry fans meeting to exchange views is now a widely anticipated group event, with many of us having had little or no interest in written verse previously.
No two meetings are the same, the subject matter constantly evolves as we learn more about the world of poetry and discover new poets.
Some of the poems make little sense to us, some are so cleverly written and thought provoking that we feel genuinely moved by them. Poetry is emotive, it evokes a whole spectrum of feelings, we like to end with a funny verse, a verse that sends us off with a spring in our step and a smile on our face and poetry, like music can do that.
If you have never read poetry, if you think it's boring or old fashioned, give it a go, there really is something to appeal to everyone and if you can't find a poem you enjoy, write your own.
