The activity schedule here at Marham House is a busy one. There is always something going on. One thing that stands out about our schedule is that it is led by us, the residents. We are regularly asked for our input and ideas. We make suggestions and the lifestyle team turn them into reality. It is quite a thrill to see an idea of your own come to fruition, there is an enormous sense of pride to be had from seeing others enjoying an event that you conceived. The team always tell us that there’s no such thing as a stupid idea and to be as creative as possible. We are always suitably impressed by their ability to deliver.
Sometimes the lifestyle team like to surprise us with an activity of their own invention. This week was one of those weeks. The team had devised an activity that moved some of us to tears. The girls had worked extremely hard to build us our very own wishing well. They had done a beautiful job of decorating it, ably assisted by Val, a fellow resident.
The well had been set up in the middle of the room and we were all asked to make a wish and throw it into the well. We had quite a giggle whilst coming up with our wishes. Some of us had to think long and hard whereas some of us knew instantly what to wish for. There was a sense of excitement throwing our wishes into that well.
Now all we can do is sit back and wait for the magic to happen.
Jackie from the lifestyle team told us “We have been busy this week collecting hopes & wishes from residents to be posted into our new wishing well. We hope to make all wishes posted into the well a reality. We have been moved by the wishes; it is heart-warming to read that so many of the wishes included a desire to help others.”
Over the coming months we will post news of our wishes coming true on Marham House Care Home Facebook Page. We are well on the way to achieving our first wish, obviously we can’t tell you what it is, but rest assured it will be a happy event that everyone will enjoy.
The team are looking forward to this challenge. Watch this space…
