Zumba is such fun, our Zumba class has been modified to allow us to all join in, we do our class sitting down however we still find it to be a great workout that leaves us feeling energised and ready to go.
We really enjoy the upbeat salsa music, it’s reminiscent of holidays in the sun, just what we need on grey January days. Apparently, Zumba was invented because of a happy accident. Back in the 90s a fitness instructor named Alberto Perez was on his way to teach an aerobics class and realised that he had forgotten his music, not having time to go back he had to improvise his class to a cassette of salsa music that he had with him. The class loved it and the rest, as they say is history.
Zumba is fabulous, it is low impact and can easily be adjusted to suit all abilities. Even if you wake up in no mood to exercise you cannot help but join in when you hear that Latin beat.
Exercising is a great way to start the day and we have no excuses; the class comes to us. We take part in a varied exercise programme, all modified to suit our needs. As well as Zumba, we enjoy calming Yoga sessions, to improve our posture, hand exercises that improve dexterity and regular walks to blow away the cobwebs and maintain our mobility.
I am more active now than I was at home, I knew that I should be doing more but never really had the inclination and the less active you are the harder it becomes to do something about it.
I feel fitter and healthier than I have in a long time, and I’ve had a lot of fun in the process. You don’t have to run marathons to improve your fitness you just have to find something that you enjoy and do it regularly.
