I love animals, their very presence has a calming effect on me. Settling down to watch TV with a dog asleep at my feet or a cat purring on my lap is my idea of pure heaven.
We often have animals visit us here at Canterbury House, it is something that we all look forward to. This week we were excited to be welcoming a company called ZooLab and their menagerie along.
ZooLab do not deal in cute and fluffy, ZooLab have a whole host of creatures that are known to strike fear in some, however we were looking forward to meeting these creatures and seeing them up close.
We were not disappointed. The guys from ZooLab arrived with snakes, lizards and much to our surprise a gigantic spider. Spiders and snakes are not everyone’s idea of an ideal companion but when you get up close, they are beautiful. The snakes were passed around for us to hold, it took a lot of courage from some, but everyone was fascinated. There were not as many people keen to get up close and personal with the tarantula, but we could all see the beauty in this amazing arachnid.
The lizards were fascinating and comical to watch, they looked like miniature dinosaurs and they were happy to be held and petted.
It was a really interesting morning; we learned a lot. I don’t think I’d ever want to curl up in front of the TV with a snake on my lap, but I do now understand a little better the desire to keep them as pets.
