On World Bee Day, Residents at Marham House, celebrated and recognised the importance, by planting Bee Bombs.
The main purpose of the events is to spread awareness of the significance of bees and other pollinators for our survival. We must realise that simply proclaiming World Bee Day does not do much for bees and other pollinators; the main work aiming towards their preservation still needs to be undertaken and World Bee Day is an excellent opportunity in this regard. Beekeepers and nature conservationists would like to ask everybody to help improve the conditions for bees, thus improving conditions for the survival of people. No major steps are needed; what counts is each and every action that facilitates the existence of bees.
Mike Shave from the West Suffolk Beekeepers Association gave a talk on the honeybee, a fascinating and very clever insect, with lots of interesting facts on their life cycle. Our residents were thoroughly entertained by the presentation.
Jackie Mogg our Lifestyle Manager and Georgia Wass our Lifestyle Co-Ordinator entertained the residents, by spending the day dressed up as bee’s.
Refreshments followed including a beautiful and delicious beehive cake made by our head chef Ian.
Mike Shave commented ‘it was lovely to be invited to the home and meet the residents at a socially acceptable distance’. This was particularly nice for Mike as this was his first presentation since February 2020.
Margaret said that it was so interesting, and she had learnt a lot. Many residents thanked Mike personally after the talk. Lillian asked lots of questions as her father kept bees and it brought back many happy memories for her.
We hope to see Mike back in the future with further talks on gardening, and thank him for his time and effort, in providing a wonderful, educational presentation for our residents.
