One of my favourite pastimes is crafting. I can lose myself for hours making cards, drawing and painting. Thankfully I get to indulge this passion often and my love of all things crafty has rubbed off on others.
Craft group is by far my favourite morning of the week, I love to be able to get creative with others. We bounce ideas off each other and help each other with projects. It is nice to be inspired by others and to share our skills.
This week we began work on a project that had us all very excited. We were painting stones and pebbles. I won’t pretend it was the easiest thing I’ve ever had to paint, the size of the stone combined with my less than perfect eyesight resulted in a fairly messy table but as I used to say to my children, “if it’s not messy, it’s not fun.”
We got entirely engrossed in our painting, determined to make each stone prettier than the last, we got quite competitive. We left our stones to dry whilst we refuelled with tea and cake.
Once the stones were dry, we were ready to move onto stage 2 of our plan. We were going to place the stones around the local area for the children to find. We felt like children ourselves as we pulled on our jackets and gathered our basket of pebbles. Thankfully it was a beautiful day, and we had the best time secreting our pretty pebbles around the town. We hid them behind lampposts, under bushes and by road signs, it was an exciting mission, I felt a little like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
We returned home and chatted over the events of the day. We wondered whether the children would spot them and what they would think of our little pebble hunt. We didn’t need to wonder for long, just a few days later we received a card from a local family thanking us and informing us of how much fun the children had had finding the stones. We were overjoyed. How wonderful that we were able to bring happiness to others with something so simple. If you live close to Hazel End, keep your eyes peeled because you may just spot some of our handy work, we’d love to hear from you if you do.
