Glastonbury may have been cancelled for a second year running but at Westhill we don’t need Glastonbury because we have our very own Westival.
I must admit, it is quite a few years since I’d have contemplated going to a festival. I can imagine loving the atmosphere, the music, the food but my days of sleeping in tents and queuing for toilets are well and truly behind me.
I now prefer comfort, my cosy bed, my en-suite shower room and flat screen TV. One of the many things that I love about living here at Westhill Park is the creativity of our wonderful lifestyle team. They are always looking for ways to bring the outside world in. Allowing us to enjoy these events in the comfort of our own homes.
This week we had a marvellous time at our very own Glastonbury style festival, Westival. There was music, there was dancing. We made Candy Floss, it’s not as easy as it looks. The atmosphere was one of sheer happiness. We were served pulled pork and doughnuts for lunch. After lunch we played fairground type games, we knocked over cans and even had a stand off with our air shooters. The lifestyle team gave us all gem tattoos, they were a lot of fun. We didn’t have gem tattoos when I was younger, in fairness we didn’t have a great deal of anything back then.
I could never have imagined, before moving into a care home that I would experience so much. At home a Monday afternoon would have consisted of daytime telly and a nap, not gem tattoos, doughnuts and dancing. Throughout my whole life, I have never attempted to make Candy Floss and now I have.
To think that I was adamant at one point that I would never want to move into a care home, the only regret I have now is that I didn’t do it sooner. Think of the events I’ve missed out on.
We had such a great time at Westival. We cannot wait to do it again next summer and next time we will be able to have our families along too.
