Who doesn’t love a trip to the pub? Whether it’s for a night out or a lunch with friends, a summer afternoon in the beer garden or a quick pint on the way home pubs are wonderful.
The great British pub is renowned the world over and through the years has become a social centre within towns and villages. The British pub has a long history dating back almost 2000 years. Invading Romans built pubs, then known as tabernae alongside their new roads and they would sell wine to thirsty travellers. Eventually they adapted to the British taste for ale and the word tabernae became tavern.
Sadly, around a quarter of pubs have closed their doors since the start of this century. Lifestyles change and new generations enjoy different things, but we will always love an afternoon in a pub, the smell of the beer, the sound of the fruit machines, it takes us back.
This week we visited the local Toby Carvery, a lovely local pub that is right on our doorstep. We had a wonderful afternoon, relaxing with friends, sipping wine and reminiscing about happy hours spent in our local.
We have so many stories to share and there is no better place than the pub for sharing them.
