Friday 20th January is World Penguin Day, a whole day dedicated to these wonderful creatures.
Last year we had a fabulous day celebrating penguins, we took a trip down memory lane discussing our own penguin encounters, watched an interesting film all about their lives and the plights they are facing. Sadly, it is estimated that half the population of emperor penguins will vanish by the end of this century. The main reason for this threat being the environmental issues threatening their habitat. We can all help the penguins, if we do our bit to tackle climate change, we can halt any further reduction in their numbers.
This year we will be taking part in another penguin themed day and this week we have been busy preparing for it. Just today we had a lovely time creating our own snowy penguin scene using things that we would normally just throw away. Crafting is really popular here, everyone gets involved, we all help each other and just enjoy spending time together, drinking tea, eating biscuits, and making a mess with the added bonus of creating something beautiful to look at.
We are happy to be able to spend another day dedicated to these beautiful creatures and if we can raise a little awareness at the same time, we’ll be even happier.
