Trigger Warning: This blog post will melt your heart.
We have a wonderful couple living here with us at Timken, they have been married forever and are clearly still very much in love. Throughout their married life they have enjoyed tips to the seaside, fish and chips by the seafront, ice-creams on the sand, it was a favourite spot of theirs.
As we get older it becomes more difficult to do the things we love, to enjoy hobbies, outings and social occasions, sadly many of the older generation become isolated and lonely.
At Timken we try our best to support our residents to do the things that they love, to remain active and engaged with the community, with the world in which they live. It isn’t always easy but where there is a will there is always a way.
As part of our wish enablement programme, we are ticking off bucket lists and making things happen and this week after hearing John’s tales of seaside adventures and how happy they made both him and his wife Audrey, we knew what we had to do.
This week we made that trip, and the sky was blue as we made the journey to the coast. It was a privilege to be a part of this day out, John and Audrey had a marvellous time, chatting together over their fish and chip lunch and enjoying ice-cream in the sun. They literally smiled all day, it was magical.
Trips such as this one offers our residents a chance to stroll down memory lane, to reconnect with the places that have meant so much to them and the people that they love. I will be forever grateful that we were able to make this happen for John and Audrey, and their smiles will stay with me for all time.
