May 18th was National Museum Day and to celebrate this event we treated ourselves to a trip to our local museum, The Northampton Museum and Art Gallery.
The basement of the museum is home to its famous shoe collection. The exhibits are beautifully displayed with some of the older pieces being encased in glass and some pieces being accessable to the public. We were able to handle the cordwaining tools and really get a sense of the processes involved, you could almost feel the history running through them.
The top floor of the museum is dedicated to the history of Northampton with exhibits dating back to the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. It is quite something to see artifacts from so long ago, it reinforces just how far we’ve come and how much has been achieved.
Our visit was both informative, we all came away with a greater appreciation for Northampton and for all who have dwelled here.
