Positioned where we are in Duston, we here at Timken Grange, are lucky to be surrounded by a wonderful community. We have been somewhat cut off from it over the past year, so it is quite special to be able to engage with them again.
Our lifestyle team have been working to build relationships and links within our community. They want to ensure that we don’t miss out on anything and that is as it should be.
This week we teamed up with a local primary school, Millway Primary School and we set them a challenge. We asked them to create a piece of art or craft work with an autumn theme. They pupils did not disappoint. There were some truly extraordinary pieces sent in.
The lifestyle manager, Helen and home manager, Amanda visited to the school to collect the artwork and thank the students for their efforts, they gathered all the art and brought it back to Timken. That afternoon the lifestyle team transformed the tearoom into an art gallery complete with glasses of fizz and canapes.
We had a very cultured afternoon viewing all the entries and picking our favourites. It was almost impossible to pick a winner. We discussed it for some time and then decided that there was no way to narrow it down to just one, so we chose three.
Later this week the lifestyle team are heading back to Millway Primary school to deliver goodie bags for every child that took part, as well as prizes for the winners. They will also be donating boxes of craft resources for the whole school to enjoy.
It was great to work with the school, their artwork was outstanding, and it really brightened our day. We are looking forward to planning many more events with them in the future.
