Marham House Care Home celebrate Arbour Day with special Time Capsule planted for future generations.
Arbour Day is a special day, that is set aside throughout the world to raise awareness for trees and the important role they play in our society and for our environment. Marham House Lifestyle Team and residents decided to commemorate this day, by planting a tree on their grounds, with an extra special touch of a time capsule.
Residents were asked to write letters that would be planted with the tree for future generations to find. Letters consisted of the resident’s life histories, jobs, families, COVID19, experiences, memories and what life is like in 2021. They are hopeful that this time capsule will not be found until years to come.
Our residents were keen to write heart felt messages, in which they took their time and really thought about what they wanted to include and what they thought was important to pass on to future generations.
Most residents included their War stories, family life, and children.
Some even included their memories and experiences whilst living at Marham House Care Home, including Elsie who mentioned her Cheese Straw, TikTok going viral.
Our residents hoped and wished for the future generations to have happy and peaceful lives, full of success and abundance.
Jackie Mogg, Lifestyle Lead commented, “On discovering Arbour Day I thought it would add a extra nice touch, to not only plant a tree but to place a time capsule underneath it, we don’t plan for this to be discovered for a very long time and are hopeful this will be of interest in the future.”
Lillian a Marham House resident commented “We are walking, talking history. I wonder what life will be like when they open it.”
Joan said, “I wrote how much life has changed over the years, as there is more technology, communication has become easier, however it can sometimes mean families and friends do not see each other as much.”
Val stated, “I really enjoyed writing letters for others to gain an understanding of what was happening and how we were feeling at this exact time.”
The reasoning behind this time capsule was a deliberate attempt to communicate with those in the future, who may find it educational to learn first-hand about a time when the COVID19 pandemic was present, providing communications from individuals with fascinating lives, who had not only lived through the pandemic but also World Wars and inspirational life events.
