Last week we asked our residents what makes them smile… one lovely lady told us of her love of horses and how happy they make her. So, this week we made her wish come true.
In the heart of the countryside, where the sun dances on rolling fields and the air is filled with the sweet scent of hay, you will find Brook Cottage Riding Stables and the wonderful ponies that call this beautiful place home. Our foray into the world of ponies not only brought smiles to our faces but also highlighted the myriad benefits of animal interaction, we were able to get up close and personal with these wonderful animals, we brushed them, we fed them apples, we helped make hay sacks, and we even cleaned tack it was just perfect.
Animal interaction is known to have a profound impact on human well-being. As we approached the ponies, there was an immediate sense of calm that settled over us. The soft nuzzles and warm, trusting eyes of the ponies provided a sense of love, melting away worries and replacing them with a deep sense of peace. Petting and grooming the ponies, brushing their soft hair was therapeutic, we couldn’t help but smile as we brushed.
The reason for our visit was wish fulfilment and this was a bucket list item ticked however we were blown away by just how emotionally uplifting our encounters with the ponies were.
The unconditional love and acceptance offered by animals create a safe space for emotional expression. We all found comfort in the ponies' presence, sharing our stories and feelings, the laughter and joy that filled the air as we fed and groomed the ponies were palpable, they just made us happy.
As we bid farewell to our newfound friends, the experience remained etched in our hearts. The gentle nuzzles, the warmth of the ponies' presence, and the shared moments of connection had had a profound impact on us all.
Animal interaction has the power to heal, to inspire, and to bring immeasurable joy, it’s like magic.
