Back in August we shared a story about our knitting club. We had been knitting for the neonatal unit at Kingsmill Hospital. We really enjoy knitting together, we share patterns and stories of our knitting successes and laugh about failed attempts. We enjoyed knitting for the neonatal unit. It is lovely to think that we can have an enjoyable afternoon and help someone in the process. 

Following publication of our story we received a phone call from a lovely lady who had recently been blessed with a great granddaughter. She had read about our knitting club and wanted to know whether we would be able to knit something for her to send as a gift.  We jumped at the chance.

We looked through patterns and wool samples to decide on the perfect items to knit and got started on our creations. It is fair to say that we got a little carried away, we knitted blankets, cardigans and hats in an array of bright colours. Linda the Lifestyle manager joined in, and we even tried to teach Steve how to knit. Steve was a very keen student, but I think it’s fair to say that he may require a few more lessons before he embarks on a knitting career.

This week we had finally finished and were ready to hand over our knitted creations. Linda contacted the lady who was excited to pop along and collect her items. Linda went outside to meet her; she was really pleased with everything that she received and couldn’t wait to pass them onto her great granddaughter.

This has been such a wonderful experience, being able to help, knowing that we have created such a personal gift for this new baby girl and one that her great grandmother is proud to be able to send to her.

It has been a long time since we knitted for our own children and grandchildren, we discussed the joy of seeing them as babies dressed in their cardigans and bonnets. Hopefully we will get the chance to see a photograph of this little girl in hers. That would be very special indeed.
