Who can have imagined that when we watched Queen Elizabeth crowned Queen at her coronation on 2nd June 1953 that we would be here all these years later celebrating her Platinum Jubilee?
The coronation was magical, the queen looked so beautiful. She was so young to be taking on such a monumental role however for the past 70 years she has been remarkable, and we are all extremely grateful.
There is a real air of excitement at Canterbury House. We have lots going on to celebrate this auspicious occasion. We have been planning for some weeks, we have attended various planning meetings and discussed our ideas, worked out a schedule and we are now just adding the finishing touches.
This week we took advantage of the wonderful spring weather and held our meeting in the garden, what an extraordinary thing to be part of. The sun was shining, and the company was great, I honestly cannot remember being this excited about an event in a long time.
This jubilee is an important event, a real once in a lifetime occasion for us all and we want to do it justice.
We have already made a start on our decorations and designed a celebration cake; the invitations have been posted and the countdown has begun.
The fact that we have been able to plan and organise this celebration with the team has meant so much and we cannot wait to see our plans come to fruition on the 3rd June when our families join us for high tea in the garden.
