Organised annually by the International Council of Nurses, International Nurses Day celebrates the contribution that nurses make to societies around the world. Held of the 12th May, a date that has a strong significance, being the birthday of perhaps the world’s most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale.
Alongside the encouragement of a fully deserved congratulations owed to nurses, the organisation also produces an International Nurses Day Kit to educate and assist health workers around the world, with a different theme each year.
The theme for this year is Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health, focusing on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to strengthen health systems around the world.
Nurses do a difficult job, long hours working in an emotive environment, it is both mentally and physically challenging. The Covid pandemic highlighted staffing issues within the NHS and shone a light on our fabulous nurses and the vital service that they provide.
We are not a nursing home however many of our team and managers are registered nurses. Their ability, patience and passion are invaluable, and we wanted to ensure that they were aware of just how much we value and respect them.
At Timken we celebrated our own team and put together goody bags to deliver the local hospital to show our appreciation. There is not a person alive who hasn’t relied on the dedication and professionalism of our nurses at some point in their life.
We delivered our goody bags, and they were very well received.
We would like to thank all nurses across the UK and the world, the extraordinary work that you do does not go unnoticed and is hugely appreciated.
