The theme for this year’s International Men’s Day was “Helping Men and Boys”. There has been much written in the press regarding the need for more support for boys and men with mental health issues and encouraging men to talk to each other.
We wanted to celebrate the wonderful gentlemen who live here at Timken Grange, to allow them to share their stories and to hear their views on the changing world and the issues men face.
It was a wonderful day, we asked our gentlemen to share a snapshot of their life histories, to tell us about their careers and their achievements and there have been many.
For many their greatest achievement was their family, it was just lovely to hear them talk with pride about their wives, their children and grandchildren. They cherish their relationships and talked with ease about their feelings.
Men do not always open up as easily as women do, they do tend to put their own feelings aside to concentrate on the feelings of those around them.
We encourage open dialogue with all of our team members and residents; when it comes to mental health, it really is good to talk.
