What fabulous weather we have experienced this week, it felt like summer had finally arrived. We were so excited to be able to get out into the garden and enjoy the feel of the sun on our faces. This week we have once again been thoroughly spoiled. I can’t believe I ever had reservations around moving here. Living here I am able to experience far more than I was ever able to living alone.
While we relaxed in the garden listening to the soulful voice of Elvis Presley and soaking up the sun, the team were busy preparing the most delicious array of mocktails to quench our thirst.
By the time we arrived in the Sky Bar we were all suitably attired in flowered shirts and homemade garlands. One other resident had even created a pineapple bra and grass skirt. The dulcet tones of Elvis had been replaced by the quirky upbeat sound of Rupert Holmes’ Pina Colada Song and out came the team carrying trays fruity mocktails.
Served in a hollowed-out watermelon was crushed ice and freshly squeezed juices or all varieties. There was a plate of fruit piled high with pineapple, strawberries, orange slices, pomegranate and coconut which was served to us in coconut shells. It was like a tropical paradise.
Canterbury House manager Trisha joined us for a drink as too did our families. After what has been a difficult year full of forced separation and loneliness it was just wonderful to be able to get together to chat and catch up.
Everyone enjoyed the mocktails, they so well thought out and beautifully presented, we even had mini umbrellas and flamingo stirrers. We tried quite an assortment of flavours from juices and smoothies to sparkling waters, but we all agreed that our favourite was concocted by our lifestyle lead Chanelle, it was a blend of crushed ice, watermelon and coconut water, one off my fellow residents drank 3 of them!
Chanelle told us “It was so wonderful to see everyone laughing and dancing. It was such a beautiful day. There will definitely be more of these in the future!”
