This week is Championing Social Care Open Week. A week in which care homes up and down the country fling open their doors and welcome in members of the local community and anyone who is interested to find out a little more about the realities of living or working in a care home.
At Westhill we pride ourselves, not just on first class care and dining but on our lifestyle schedule. The monthly schedule is resident led and created to include the hobbies and passions of all who choose to live with us with a couple of surprises thrown in for good measure.
For our open day we wanted to organise a day that not only demonstrated our out of the box thinking, but something that our residents would enjoy organising as much as attending. Residents and team members put their thinking caps on and decided on a good old fashioned summer fayre complete with tombola and raffle, hook a duck, and ice-cream
We have spent a great deal of our time this week preparing, there is a lot to do to put on an event of this size. We’ve crafted, painted, cut, and glued, it’s been a lot of fun. There has been much reminiscing about visits to school summer fayres as children and then again taking our own offspring along, helping out on the PTA and donating soft toys and bottles of wine, it’s been a lovely stroll down memory lane for all of us.
The Care Home Open Week is a fabulous tool for increasing awareness about our lives here at Westhill Park, but if you would like to know more, don’t wait for the next big event, give us a call and pop along to see us, we’d love to show you around.
