The Bishops Stortford Gospel choir was started in 2008 by Musical Director Bethany Richard. Bethany had plenty of experience, having led choirs in Cambridge and Hertfordshire previously.
The wonderful thing about the choir is that it is a strictly non-audition choir and was created to be available to anyone who loves to sing. They have members of all ages and abilities and love to welcome new members.
The choir has a real sense of community about it, they are a choir, but they are also friends, and this comes across in their joyful performances.
The choir perform at many local events and include visits to care homes in their schedule.
This week we were fortunate to receive a visit from the choir and it was a truly joyous afternoon. The choir entertained us with some classics and then introduced us to the music of Swahili. Following the performance, the choir stayed for a chat and some light refreshments, it was fascinating to learn about them and to hear the about the wonderful ways in which the choir has benefited not only its members but the local community too.
Listening to the choir was so uplifting, it even inspired us to organise more opportunities for singing, we may even start our own choir.
