If you are unfamiliar with the game, it’s very simple. Each number on a die represents a part of the beetle, all you have to is throw the die, draw the body part and the first person to produce a complete image of the beetle wins. It’s more fun than it sounds.
You must throw a 1 to be able to draw the body and you must draw this before you can add anything else. You can throw a die a lot of times before throwing a 1, we know, we tried. Once you have a body, you need a head, throw a 2 for that, the rest of the body parts can be added in any order. Sounds simple, and it is but it is also frustrating and hilarious in equal measure.
We held our own beetle drive last week and it really was a lot of fun, I learned that some of the residents here are a lot more competitive than I had imagined they would be, I also learned that a beetle is not that easy to draw, most of our beetles bore little resemblance to the actual creature.
A lot of the old games have gone out of fashion, but it is time to bring them back, no batteries required, just a piece of paper, a glass of wine, a cold beer, a pencil, a die and a sense of fun and you have everything that you require for a very entertaining afternoon.
