If I were to ask you to list five care home activities, I’m sure that your list would include Bingo, Dominoes and quizzes and you would of course be right. We do not create our activities schedule without input from our residents, they choose the activity, the running time and the venue and they want Bingo, Dominoes, and quizzes and lots of them. Whatever they ask for we facilitate although we did have to draw the line at bungee jumping.
From time to time we are asked for activities that require the team to be a little creative and these are our favourites. At the last planning meeting we were asked to add badminton to the schedule, and we loved this idea. Not discouraged by the fact that it’s winter we got onto this straight away.
The cinema room is a fabulous facility for cosy film nights and afternoon teas, as it turns out it also makes for a passable badminton court.
Our lady and gentlemen players were over the moon, we had a fun afternoon playing singles, doubles, we even held a tournament. We did not anticipate how much fun this would be, I do not usually associate badminton with raucous laughter but that is what we got.
This will become a regular event and we are looking forward to holding outdoor tournaments in the spring and summer.
